Job LinksWho's hiring linguists/language experts these days? There is a market for linguists in business and industry. These usually are jobs that involve (a) teaching English as a Foreign (or Second) Language or (b) some computer skills. In the latter category, they are most often in the medical field or software. For example, an MU communication graduate who wrote on conversational analytic studies of telephony is now working for AT&T. Recent MU linguistics graduates are part of the Summer Institute of Linguistics/Wycliff Bible Translators, are in graduate school, work for Merriam-Webster, are in academic administration (one in admissions management, another in accreditation services), or are in the software industry. |
